Excerpt from September 2011, Insights

If you were psychic you would know my name.   If I never hear this statement again, it will be too soon.  I am not omniscient  (having complete or unlimited knowledge, awareness, or understanding; perceiving all things) nor is any human that I know.  I might be able to "intuit" your name if I concentrate hard enough but why expend loads of energy when you can just tell me?  This statement seems funny to skeptics but it stems from a lack of understanding how hard one has to work for accurate psychic information.

A real psychic would know all of the answers. I think this widespread misconception has been passed down through the ages by fortune tellers and psychics claiming to be perfect.  If you meet one of these, run and don't look back.  No psychic is 100%.  There is simply no such creature.  I get fragments of the story, blurry images and puzzle pieces.  I may misinterpret something I saw or worse, miss something important. I get some answers, rarely all of the answers.  We are humans, I think the biggest aspect of living on this great planet is in the not knowing all of the answers.  There would be no challenge, surprises or mystery if we knew all.

Psychics are psychic all the time.   I don't know about others, but I turn it on and off at will.  If I meet you on the street or in the grocery store, I am not going to know your secrets or your name :)  Turning it on takes a great deal of energy so when I'm not working, I'm not on.  I'm probably pondering what to make for dinner or the best deal on laundry detergent.   Besides, privacy is privacy so I don't think it's right to walk up to strangers and impart private information without being asked.  On the flip side, I am more sensitive to my environment, especially the emotions of those around me, which can make me uneasy in crowds and noise sensitive.  That aspect never shuts off, which I guess is why we are called sensitives.

If you're wrong, you must be a fake.  This is a tough one.  There are plenty of fakes and unethical people out there.  I think some of these people have the ability (we all do, really) but just are tired of expending the energy so make stuff up instead.  Sad but true.  There are also thousands of undeveloped "psychics" out there calling police departments when they haven't had the proper training and this is creating backlash for the entire field.  If you don't know what you're doing then be honest about it rather than claim to be all knowing.  It's disastrous for everyone.  Even well trained and honest intuitives make mistakes because they are human.  A good psychic with 85% accuracy is still going to be wrong on the other 15%.

No psychic has ever found a body or solved a crime.    This statement just makes me sad.  I keep hearing this in the media and it's simply untrue.  It happens more frequently than you would imagine.  I have done it, I know others who have done it and I've also heard stories, from detectives personally, about being led to the wrong body.  The second part of that statement is gray area and much harder to define. I may point them in the right direction but detectives have to do the work, follow the leads, find the evidence or get the confessions.  My work is only as good as their work.  It's a joint effort.  Some of these partnerships work well and some don't.  Also, if there is no evidence to be found, neither of us can change that.  Since detectives are also human, they make mistakes too.  Even a highly accurate psychic and a talented detective are still far from perfect when they combine their efforts. Throw in some politics and actually bringing the right person to trial is harder than it appears.

All psychics are created equal.   Psychic ability is a natural ability that everyone has and can develop.  However, like any other talent, be it athleticism, musical talent, or artistic talent, some were born with a stronger natural gift.  As with any discipline, like art and music, it can be learned with hard work and practice.  For those who dedicate themselves and want to put in the work, they can become quite good.
