Pam's Monthly Insights
August 2006
Hello friends,
Welcome to my newest subscribers and "hi" to my long time readers. Thanks to all who wrote with your supportive comments about Sensing Murder. The most common question being "will they tell us what happened?" Yes, we will be doing updates. As much as I would love to update you now, I must keep you in suspense. Some of you also saw reruns of a show I did a while back called Proof Positive for the Sci Fi channel and others saw the rerun of "Mediums, We See Dead People" on A&E or the Biography channel. I've been on the airwaves quite a bit this month!
Since you're reading this newsletter, I'm guessing you survived the Mercury retrograde I warned you about last month. This period was a doozey for me. I missed a couple of important appointments, lost a credit card, important letters never came, bought a DVD that didn't work and just couldn't reach people I need to reach. However, I did repaint the bathroom and connect with a few voices from the past. Still, I'm glad it's August and we can move forward now.
Last month I also mentioned going on a mini cruise to Mexico. It was wonderful except that little bout of sea sickness I suffered on the first night. The experience takes a certain personality type to enjoy which inspired me to write an article about your sun sign and vacation style. Another thing I am excited about is this new DVD called The Secret which I discovered and will be recommending to you this month instead of a book. The Secret is about gaining everything you want out of life, including happiness. I came home the other day to find my teenage son and his friends all watching. Speaking of my teenage son, he has been tinkering with the keyboard since he was three when he first plunked out the theme for Sesame Street by ear. Some of his music will be used on Sensing Murder. He's come a long way since Sesame Street. I'm so proud.

Karma is a Mirror
I have been asked to talk about my thoughts on Karma. I do believe that what we put out there we receive back ten fold. This is why giving or tithing is so beneficial to your own prosperity. We've all heard the saying "to get a smile, give a smile." If you want more love in your life, give more love, etc., etc. "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." I believe in this philosophy 100%. I believe karma is merely a mirror and the good, bad and ugly are reflected right back at us, unfailingly. If you use other people to fulfill your needs rather than fulfill your own, you will find that you continue feeling needy and unfulfilled and others start to avoid you, thus denying your "needs" further. Your mirror is reflecting neediness. If, however, you can do or give to others unconditionally (come on, completely free of strings) you will find that people show up magically just when you need them. You've reflected giving right back to yourself. Your thoughts count in here too. If you secretly wish someone harm, you are calling that to yourself ... and how. If you wish someone love and happiness (and really mean it) you are brining that energy unto yourself. When you feel happiness for someone else's success rather than jealous or resentful, you are lighting up your success mirror. It really is that simple. I'm not saying it's simple to apply, I'm just saying it's simple to understand ... ha
But what about bad things happening to good people? Unfortunately, I deal with this issue more than I care to in my crime work. A large percentage of crime victims were engaged in risky behavior. But what about the ones who seemed to just be in the wrong place at the wrong time? Remember the reflection theory? What if they were putting a great deal of fear out there? What if they were feeling that the world is a dangerous place and no one can be trusted? What if they felt great anger toward criminals? What are they going to reflect back? This isn't always the case but I have seen it quite a few times in female victims. We also have to consider the possibility of past lives and karmic patterns we can't see.
I do believe in past lives and karma that carries over from them. However, I feel this is much smaller of a force than many people believe. I believe that we are firmly in the driver's seat of our current life (by our thoughts, actions and choices) and need to take full responsibility for the things we are reflecting into our mirrors. I don't like to see people use karma as a cop out. This is why I don't accept the bit about staying in an abusive or destructive relationship because it's karmic. Please. A bad relationship is a bad relationship. You either get out of it or you start reflecting love, acceptance and positive thoughts onto your partner and onto your karmic mirror. I've even heard people say they are destined to be poor and unsuccessful because they were greedy in a past life. WHAT!? Uh, maybe. Or maybe they were just reflecting poverty into their mirror by resenting others with success and money.

Your Sun Sign's Vacation Style
ARIES- (Mar 21-Apr 19) You need adventure and excitement. Lazing around all day just isn't your style as you get bored easily. Amusement parks and gambling casinos may be right up your isle. You could also enjoy a sporting event either participating or watching. Anything new that you've never tried before will appeal to your sense of adventure.
TAURUS- (Apr 20- May 20) Comfort, relaxation and good food are just what you need. You may prefer a five star hotel with a spa than sleeping in a tent. You do enjoy the great outdoors, especially a hike in the woods, but still prefer comfortable, cozy accommodations. The beauty of nature speaks to you. Taurus also loves good food and wine, art and music. Pick a location that delights all of the senses and gives you time to do nothing.
GEMINI (May 21- June 20) Being an air sign you might prefer flying. A master at language, try a foreign destination where your bilingual skills will be tested. You need to stay connected so you'll be happiest bringing along your lap top and cell phone. You may enjoy lounging on the beach or by the pool with a good book. Exploring small local shops and bookstores would be fun. Any destination that keeps you mentally stimulated will appeal.
CANCER (June 21- July 22) Cancers love water and especially the ocean. A trip to a tropical island or a cruise would be perfect. A small inn or bed and breakfast will make you feel safe and cozy. A family oriented sign, you will want to bring along the family or may travel to see relatives. Historical sites may peak your interest so a trip to Washington DC would be a perfect destination. Don't forget your love of great food so try out some small local restaurants.
LEO (July 23- Aug 22) Leos love luxury and great service. A cruise or spa would be perfect for you. You also enjoy fun and lively locations like Las Vegas. Entertainment is right up your alley so you may enjoy the theater, ballet or even Universal Studios. Castles and grand estates might appeal to your love of royalty. Dress up affairs are also fun for you.
VIRGO (Aug 23- Sep 22) Getting a Virgo to take a vacation isn't always easy but a health spa is a great destination for those who care so much about healthy body and mind. You will be happiest if you can plan all of the details of your trip in advance so things will run smoothly and you can relax. You aren't one to lay around with nothing to stimulate you so have plenty of interesting shops to visit and fun things to do to keep your busy mind focused on something other than your work back home.
LIBRA (Aug 23- Oct 22) Libra will most enjoy a romantic getaway with a special someone. If you are single, you will still be happiest traveling with or to visit friends. If anyone can enjoy a big city it's you Libra. This refined sign loves culture and good taste, theater, art and music. You also enjoy luxurious accommodations, like Taurus. Add chocolate and you will be in your bliss.
SCORPIO (Oct 23- Nov 21) Scorpio is a water sign who enjoys their privacy. Sailing, scuba diving or simply spending time near the water will soothe your soul. Because you enjoy seclusion, a large crowded cruise ship is not for you. You are a born investigator so bring along a good murder mystery and don't forget the champagne and chocolate. You are a passionate soul so bring along someone special to enjoy the starlight.
SAGITTARIUS (Nov 22- Dec 21) Sagittarius is the traveler and adores getting away to anywhere new and different. Foreign travel is especially fun for you, as you love learning about other cultures, their food, their customs, their buildings, everything about them. You are a deeply spiritual or philosophical sign who might go on a spiritual quest at some point in your life. Club Med would be perfect for you as you also enjoy to dance and participate in physical activities.
CAPRICORN (Dec 22- Jan 19) Capricorn is another sign that takes some coaxing to leave work behind. Still you enjoy the mountains and hiking on trails with great views. The Rockies would be perfect. Golf is another favorite of your sign so a trip planned around a great golf course would make you pack your bags. Famous historic sites might interest you as well.
AQUARIUS (Jan 20- Feb 18) Anything offbeat of unusual will intrigue you. Alaska is a good choice. You also love technology so a trip to Epcot Center might appeal to young and old. Most Aquarians enjoy flying. Speaking of electronic devices, you will probably want to bring your laptop so you can check your email periodically and your GPS to keep you from getting lost. If traveling with others be sure to give yourself a bit of alone time each day to keep you happy and gregarious.
PISCES (Feb 19- Mar 20) Since you are a water sign and very romantic you might enjoy a tropical island with a sweetheart. Swimming, snorkeling, walks on the beach at sunset, romantic dinners and movies will stir your soul. Don't forget to bring your camera as you may have a flair for photography. You may love a spiritual retreat where you can meditate and do yoga in a beautiful setting. Dancing under the stars?

Slips of the Tongue or Intuitive Insights?
I've noticed something that happens to me and others I've known. I say something intuitive without realizing I said it or that it had intuitive insight. A good example is something from the first episode of Sensing Murder that got cut. When I was standing on the corner with the detective, he asked me what kind of weapon was used in the crime. I said "I couldn't tell you, I'm batting a zero on this issue." If you saw the show, you know that the weapon was indeed a bat. It took a few seconds before anyone realized what I had done. I have found that many times I joke about something that turns out to be an intuitive hit. Once, I was with the family walking back to our car from the fair. I made some joke about it having been towed because we were all so tired of walking. Sure enough, when we got there, the vehicle was gone.
I've witnessed this with other friends as well. A friend was talking to me the other day and mentioned how important it is to stay grounded when you have a career in television. He brought up the example of celebrities constantly changing their hair color. Little did he know that I had just changed my hair color! LOL I'd love to hear your stories about this, if you have one.

Media
Sensing Murder. A few words about how this show was filmed which you won't hear during the show. Laurie Campbell and I were kept in the dark about where we were going until one week before departure, when we received our airline tickets. After our arrival we were kept apart so we could not compare notes or influence one another. We were teamed up with different detectives who are also kept from discussing the case with one another during the duration of filming. The only feedback Laurie and I received is what you will see on camera. (We were debriefed later) Laurie and I are not allowed internet access or email during the filming of the show so we can't research the case ... Discovery doesn't understand that we are too smart for that. We both understand that the less we know the better. Still, I respect them for keeping the integrity of the show. So what you see will actually be our true reactions and process not a reenactment. Nerves of steel, baby. J
Watch for the entire season this fall.
